NU Begins Major Marketing Effort
On Monday, Northwestern is set to kick off its biggest football marketing effort in decades. The athletic department has announced
a new slogan, "Northwestern, Chicago's Big Ten Team," and has plans to
plaster copy on Chicago area billboards and other out-of-home, radio,
print, and online vehicles.
An example from NUSports.com of the new creative
NU is clearly making another push to reinforce the connection of NU
with Chicago, and to emphasize the area as NU's home turf.
Coinciding with the Big Ten expansion news (and the wall-to-wall
coverage it has received in the media) and NU's upcoming game at
Wrigley Field, the campaign is well-timed, and well-aimed.
A huge congratulation goes out to Lake The Posts,
who essentially brought all this about. Three years ago, before
LTP and his purple marketing engine hit cyberspace, NU's marketing
efforts were moribund. Since Mr. Posts began his efforts, NU has
hired a new associate AD for external affairs and has beefed up its
overall marketing efforts tenfold. In just the last year,
LTP is responsible for over $42,000 in new ticket sales (including 110
new season ticket sales), so it's not too surprising that NU would take
his advice and up its marketing game. Again, a big thanks to LTP,
and good luck to NU as it begins this new era of marketing.
